First Actual Metal Detecting Hunt: The Loot
This was my first hunt. I spent about two hours at a recreational park and got a variety of things; mostly coins. This first object looks to be a rock but is very heavy for its size. Maybe two – three times the weight a rock of that size would be. I am trying to determine what it is comprised of.

I found quite a few coins, but in one spot I think i found about 8.
I checked the dates, nothing before 1952 and nothing after 1989,..so I think 1989 is probably when they were left. They were pretty deep, nothing was found above 4 inches.
I need some help though. Just as I was getting ready to leave I got a hit about 6 inches deep. I dug up an object very heavy for its size. Its rather rounded on one side and had a more flatter side on the back. I honestly dont know any more details besides it being really heavy. See attached image.
The other objects were a fishing weight, what looks to be some sort of hinge, or part of a lyre and finally what looks to be part of a bullet but not sure.
Overall I had a great time. It was starting to get dark, but I have so much more to dig there.
Any ideas on the heavy object?

Lucky you, this is one of my passions that I could never accomplish. Only once in my life I have search for lost treasure with my colleagues when I was young and working in a TV station. Haha, we didn’t find anything, but it was very cool.

I tried this once and all I found was a 20p that i’m pretty sure I, myself, dropped.
Interesting post though, thanks.

I am thinking to buy a metal detector and have some play. There is a myth about my family great grandpa which is part of royal family. It is know that there are gold coins the the family land dig deeper in the ground, so I hope I can find something.

Wow neat! Totally check that out. I have a bounty hunter Quick Draw II which does a great job with coins, there is also a smaller gold specific coil that can be purchased for under $25.00 which can really produce nice finds. Let me know how that goes if you try hunting. It is always fun to hunt on your own property first to see what you can find. You would be surprised what is hiding there right where you are every day.

You seem to have done pretty well for a first time – I think you might have found a spot that might yield quite a few interesting objects. And you never know, if you keep at it you might hit that buried treasure worth millions!

It probably has a high iron content or some other kind of metal. If you take it to a local geologist or possibly a gemologist, they can help you more with it. Always get a second opinion though!

Here the student was able to experience albeit on a cursory level the difficulties and problems encountered by the community. My developer is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on several websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform. I have heard excellent things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress content into it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
